The Vermont Collection contains books about Vermont
or by Vermont authors. Most of these books are housed
in the Vermont Room. Some books by Vermont authors,
but kept in the regular collections, are designated
by large green stickers on the book’s spine.
Included in the Vermont room are books on Rochester
and other Vermont towns, local geography, geology, history,
culture, biographies, and periodicals. A bibliography
of the collection is available for download in PDF format:

The Vermont Collection Bibliography
The bookcases on either side of the front door of the
library contain books added to the collection in the
past ~ 6 months. Novels are contained in the south bookcase
and biographies and nonfiction in the north bookcase.
The main room of the library contains the adult collection.
The fiction section on the south side of the room contains
novels, mysteries, science fiction, and literature.
Biographies and nonfiction are located on the north
side of the room. Biographies are found on the east
wall.
This special collection is being developed to appeal
to readers in the 14-21 age group. The collection includes
books nominated for the annual Green Mountain Book Award,
graphic novels, life planning, teen parenting, and more.
Books for children from birth to high school are kept
in this wonderful sunny room. Chubby, cardboard books
for babies, picture books for preschoolers, learn-to-reads
for beginning readers, and junior chapter books for
elementary ages.
The library offers 5 high speed internet connections.
Some have software for spreadsheets, desktop publishing,
and word processing. Bring your own wireless laptop
and utilize the WiFi service.
Books on CD and cassette tape are available for all
ages. Many of the audiobooks in the children’s
collection are unabridged and print copies are available
to read along.
The collection is a mix of academy award winners, independent
and foreign films, documentaries, and Vermont films.
Located in the vestibule of the library, the ongoing
book sale is an important fundraiser for the library.
Included are a mix of books retired from the library
collection and donations. Most books are priced from
25 cents to a dollar, with some more collectible or
new books priced a little higher. Please stop and browse
frequently as the collection changes frequently and
the best new books go quickly.
Keep the library in mind when you are ready to part
with good books in good condition …donate them
to the library! Some donations we can add to the collection
and the remainder we will add to the book sale to raise
critically needed funds for the library budget.
